Mamematical Demography : Recent Developments in Popuation Projections
نویسنده
چکیده
Mathematical demography has flowered in many different gardens during the past twenty years. Several reviews of mathematical demograph are available: Keyfitz (1 968), Feishtinger (1 971), Pollard (1 973), Ludwig 8978). Keiding (1975), Menken (1977), Smith and Keyfitz (1977), Kurtz (1981), and Cohen (1984). This necessarily brief review deals only with stochastic models for population projection developed since 1965.

The demography of human development and climate change vulnerability: A projection exercise
We propose a methodological framework aimed at obtaining projections of the Human Development Index (HDI) that can be used to assess the degree of vulnerability of future societies to extreme climatic events. By combining recent developments in the modeling and projection of population by age, sex, and educational attainment, our modeling set-up ensures that the different components of the HDI ...
متن کاملOn secular stagnation and low interest rates: demography matters
Nominal and real interest rates in advanced economies have been decreasing since the mid-1980s and reached historical low levels in the aftermath of the global financial crisis. Understanding why interest rates have fallen is essential for both monetary policy and financial stability. This paper focuses on one of the factors that have been put forward in the literature within the secular stagna...
متن کاملStochastic Fiscal Projections with Cyclical and Long-Term Uncertainty
Several recent efforts to improve budget forecasting techniques have emphasized the uncertainties inherent in projections of economic behavior and demography. Previous attempts to present stochastic budget projections for the U.S. have successfully incorporated sources of long-run uncertainty but have not attempted to model business cycle fluctuations realistically. While perhaps reasonably acc...
متن کاملVi. Methodology of the United Nations Population Estimates and Projections
First, based on new empirical evidence and informed by recent findings in demography, sociology, political sciences and economics, specific guidelines about dominant future trends of fertility, mortality and migration are formulated. These guidelines ensure consistency between and comparability of the estimated and projected demographic trends for the world’s countries. These guidelines are fle...
متن کاملMigration Policy, African Population Growth and Global Inequality
According to recent UN projections more than 50 percent of the growth in world population over the next half century will be due to population growth in Africa. Given this, any policy that influences African demography will have a significant impact on the world distribution of income. In this paper we discuss the potential for migration policies to affect fertility and education decisions, and...
